Enrichment Post-16

Community work and extra-curricular activities form an important element of students’ timetables and allow them to develop and showcase a wide range of skills valued by employers and universities. In Year 12 students are required to undertake leadership work on a voluntary basis, for example by acting as ‘Subject Champions’ supporting staff and younger students in one of their current subject areas, or as library leaders running our Sixth Form library. Our Elective Programme provides more enrichment and academic support options to sixth form students on Wednesdays between 3.30pm and 4.20pm.

Our Academic Enrichment Programme involves trips, visits and speakers and is a great source of 'supercurricular enrichment' for our Sixth Form students who are aiming for competitive university courses. Many of these opt to complete an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) involving a highly independent academic research project into a topic of their own choosing.

Another popular 'extra' is the Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award which is completed by significant numbers of our Sixth Form students each year.

Students in Year 12 can also apply for a Travel Scholarship, funded by the King Alfred's Educational Charity, which supports them to undertake a trip planned by themselves with some educational benefit.
